If you complete 10 years of service in your PF account.. you are eligible to get pension under EPS stands for Employees Pension Scheme. If the service is less than 10 years.. EPS amount can be withdrawn or scheme certificate can be taken.
You must have completed 10 years of service or more to get pension under EPS. This service does not need to be in the same company. Even if you change job..if your UAN is same..if EPS contribution continues..combined service of both jobs will be considered as 10 years.
EPFO rules also provide a grace period of 6 months on completion of 9.5 years of service. Due to this, 10 years of service will be considered and pension will be given. If your service is less than 10 years.. you can fill Form 10C and get EPS Withdrawal Benefit. Or apply for scheme certificate.
The advantage of having scheme certificate is.. if you re-employed later.. you can complete 10 years combined with previous service. Similarly, members who have completed 10 years of service or more can opt for regular pension at the age of 58 or early pension between the ages of 50–57.
The scheme certificate contains the salary and service eligible for pension so far on government record. With this your total service will be calculated by adding the EPS contribution in the new job. If you withdraw before completing 10 years.. your EPS membership will end. The right to pension may also be revoked in future.
If your UAN is same but EPS contribution is transferred.. service of different companies will converge. Even if there is a break in between.. Previous service will also be considered. For example 7 years old job, 1 year gap, 4 years new job. That means total service will be considered as 11 years. Can get pension.
