Story (Dies Irae Movie Story): Rohan (Pranav Mohanlal) is an architect. Father is a big businessman. Parents are in America. He leads his life by partying and having fun with his friends. One day it is known that classmate Kani (Sushmita Bhatt) committed suicide. Rohan comes to visit them. Since then the spirit comes to his house.
Rohan feels that Kani’s spirit has been haunting him ever since he came home. Kani’s neighbor Madhu (Jibin Gopinath) seeks help. If cut… one day the soul of the man will appear. Whose is it? Who caused Kani’s younger brother Kiran (Arun Azikumar) to fall from the first floor in Rohan’s house? What does the real soul want? Who is Philip? What finally happened? Analysis (Dies Irae Telugu Review): It has been a long time since horror was made into a comedy. Now in the Indian film industry, ‘horror and comedy’ cannot be seen separately. These days, there are few directors who only believe in horror and make films. Rahul Sadashivan is one in that list. Revathi scared with ‘Bhootakaal’, Mammootty with ‘Bhrama Yugam’. Now once again they scare with ‘Deus Ere’. No doubt about it.
Director Rahul Sadashivan has written in the title card ‘Based on actual incidents’. What are the true events of the horror movie? It is natural for the audience to doubt that. After the major twist (it will be a spoiler) is revealed… I remember reading such things in the news. The story he weaves around that point is good. There is nothing new in that. Not that it is horror, but that point is seen in some movies. There is nothing new in the story but the way the director has shot it, the background music has real horror.
‘Deus Ere’ was made with a simple story. There aren’t too many horror moments either. Didn’t go into the actual story until the interval. None other than the protagonist who feels that the dead girl’s spirit is haunting him is shown. But the director has taken the story forward in such a way as to create an illusion that something is going to happen and to engage. Even if the story moves forward slowly…Rahul Sadashivan’s skill is seen in taking it into the story. After Kiran falls down, the visuals will bring tears to your eyes. From the moment Rohan goes to Kani’s house, we can’t take our eyes off him until the end. We watch the movie with awe and wonder.

After the twist is revealed in ‘Dias Irai’, the last 20 minutes will give you an edge-of-the-seat thrill. Major credit should be given to music director Christo Xavier. Techniques like jump cuts and sharp edits are followed in horror movies to scare the audience. There are such things in this too. Christo’s background music went on to frighten even the audience who could imagine what would happen in that scene. He did extraordinary duty in every scene. Cinematography is also very good. The lighting is done to carry the mood in the scene. If the cinematography of Shehnad Jalal, who created the lavish look and party mood in the first half, then the lighting tone was changed when the second half came. The lighting pattern in the night scenes created that fear. Build values are good. Technically brilliant film & brilliant film making.
Pranav Mohanlal gave a settled performance as Rohan. Didn’t go out of character. Impact was shown through looks and styling. After watching ‘Deus Ere’, the audience will surely talk about Jaya Kurup’s performance and her scene. She is a surprising package in the film. Arun Ajikumar and Jibin Gopinath have given good performances to the extent of their roles.
