It is impossible to say when what will become a trend in the field of cinema. Some say that as a sentiment. If you look at the current trend of Telugu movies, some movies are being released as if the heroine is the main villain of the movie. Earlier, the heroine should be shown as the villain, so definitely there was a second heroine in the film. Rajinikanth’s ‘Narasimha’ can be said to be the best example of this. But now our director writers are directly making the main heroine the villain without referring to such a second heroine. Here are some examples of such movies.
Rx 100- Payal Rajput (2018)
It should be said that RX 100 went to the peak of turning heroines into villains. The audience was shocked to see Payal Rajput in the role of Indu as a cunning heroine who just uses Shiva (Kartikeya) in the name of love to fulfill her desires and finally marries another man but also kills the hero. So far no one has imagined such a heroine role in Tollywood. The audience connected with the honesty of Shiva’s character and went crazy for the movie. From this movie, the makers have started cooking new stories in Tollywood, changing the main heroine to a new villain.
Virupaksha – Samyukta Menon (2023)
So far, Samyukta, who appeared in satvika roles in films like ‘Bhimla Nayak’, ‘Bimbisara’ and ‘Saar’, gave a big twist to the audience by appearing in ‘Virupaksha’ as Nandini, the witch who caused the death of her parents. It was the heroine Sanyukta who gave the real shock to the audience who thought it was a hero Sai Durga Tej centric movie till the release. The real reason behind the movie being a super hit is the villainy of the heroine character.
Kingdom – Bhagya Sri (2025)
There is a villainous character in ‘Kingdom’ which is not noticed by many people as the film was not as successful as expected. The same Dr. Bhagya Sri who appeared in the role of Madhu. In the movie, Bhagya Sri is seen in a negative character who knows that Suri (Vijay Devara Konda) will kill his elder brother Shiva (Satya Dev) but does not tell him about it. As the movie was not a hit as expected, the twist in Bhagyashree’s role was also not very popular.
Rachita Ram – Coolie (2025)
The character of Neelambari in ‘Narasimha’ is most reminiscent of the lady villain in Superstar Rajinikanth’s film. But the character has an aura. But in the same Rajinikanth movie ‘Coolie’, heroine Rachita Ram appeared in the role of a cruel villain who commits not only betrayal but also murders for money. Although there is another heroine in the film, Shruti Haasan, the reason for all the twists in the story is Rachita’s role of Kalyani. Although neither movie was a big hit, Rachita and Shaubin, who played the role of her husband, got a lot of fame.
Kantara Chapter 1 – Rukmini Vasanth (2025)
In this year’s biggest pan India hit ‘Kantara 1’, Rukmini Vasanth, who played the role of Princess Kanakavati, who looks like the heroine and gives a twist to the villain at the end, got as much fame as the hero Rishabh Shetty. Rukmini’s performance in the role of Mugda, who looks charming on the one hand and shows evilness on the other, impressed the audience at the pan-India level. So much so that Rukmini got a new craze overnight as ‘New National Crush’. Currently, this movie is breaking records at the national level.

In 2025 alone, heroines appeared in new roles as villains in three big movies. Bhagya Sri in ‘Kingdom’, Rachita Ram in ‘Coolie’ and Rukmini Vasanth in ‘Kantara 1’ brought a new dimension to the role of the heroine. Let’s see how many more movies heroines will appear as villains in the coming days.
The origin of all this is that movie. The heroine is our Telugu mother
However, the story of giving a twist to the heroine as a villain started with the 2008 movie ‘Subrahmanyapuram’. Colors Swati played the heroine in that movie. Swathi shocked the audience in the role of Tulsi who helps to kill the person she loves (Jai) in the background of a family feud. If this movie was dubbed in Telugu as ‘Ananthapuram 1980’, it played well here. Especially the song ‘Kontechuputo… Neekonte Chupto…’ from this movie became an all time super hit. Today’s audience, who are mesmerized by this song, will be shocked to know that Swathi’s character will kill the hero who appears in the song. This trend which started then has now reached its peak.
