Hate crimes against Indians in America: Hate crimes against Indian-Americans have increased in the US during President Donald Trump’s second term. Online hate and violence against people of South Asian descent remained limited during Biden’s tenure. As of October 2024, 46,000 trolling and 884 threats were reported. However, after Trump’s return, the situation worsened. Trolling increased to 88,000 by October 2025, a 91 percent increase. After the Trump-Musk-Ramaswamy talks on visa and immigration issues in December, 76 percent of the threats were related to job loss. The Trump administration’s decision to increase H-1B visa fees and deport 104 Indians further aggravated the situation.
This led to an increase in shootings and temple attacks in Texas, Virginia and California. According to the think tank Center for the Study of Organized Hate, racist posts have also increased in recent months.
Indian community is being targeted in many cities
Between November 2024 and October 2025, violent incidents targeting the Indian community took place in American cities. In February 2025, an Indian-American businessman was shot dead in Virginia. In March 2025, a father and daughter were killed in an attack on a grocery store. In September 2025, two students and a worker were murdered in Dallas, Texas. In the same month, the world was shocked by the beheading of Chandramouli Nagamalaya. In October 2025, a shooting at a motel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania targeted the owners and employees of Indian origin. Hate crimes against students were reported in Ohio, Illinois and Indiana.
“Drive the Indians out of the country”
According to reports, this growing trend of racism is not limited to Indians, but is targeting the entire South Asian community. There is no discrimination on the basis of religion, nationality or ethnic identity. The report cites four main reasons for this. According to the report, growing global anger against immigrants in the US, Europe and Australia is a key driver of this racist trend. This sentiment has become a major component of emerging right-wing politics around the world.
Trump’s policies have led to an increase in racist posts against Indians
Americans are angry about the H-1B visa. Anger over H-1B visas in the US is also fueling the trend. Right-wing groups have alleged that Indians are taking jobs from American citizens despite their lower qualifications. This has led to an increase in slogans on social media to expel Indians from the country.
Tensions over the Indo-US trade deal have also fueled animosity. An accident involving a Sikh truck driver in Florida that killed three people is being exaggerated by some to spread hatred against them. After the 2024 presidential election, anti-Indian racist posts increased. The first reason was opposition to the Trump administration’s appointment of Sriram Krishnan as chief adviser. Another reason was Vivek Ramaswamy, where he demanded more visas for migrant workers.
