The Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to hear two petitions seeking a stay on the release of the film The Taj Story or changes in its certification. Delhi High Court advised the petitioners to file a review petition with the Central Government under Section 6 of the Cinematograph Act.,

The certification given to the film was challenged

The petition was filed by Shakeel Abbas in Delhi High Court. They allege that facts have been distorted in the film and it can serve as a means of spreading communal propaganda. Both of them had challenged the certificate given by the Central Board of Film Certification.

During the hearing, when the petitioners asked the court to at least change the disclaimer of the film, Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay asked whether we are a super censor board. He said that the court has its own limits and work can be done within the limits of the provisions of the law.

The court said to appeal to the central government in this matter

Delhi High Court said that there is no right to review the decision of the Censor Board in the Cinematograph Act 1952, hence such a direction cannot be given. The court allowed the petitioners to withdraw their petition and file a review petition with the Central Government.

The court also clarified that it has not given any opinion on the content of the film and if a petition is given to the Central Government, it will be decided as per law.

The petitioner had accused him of distorting history.

The petitioners in the Delhi High Court had alleged that the producers, directors and actors of the film are continuously making controversial films, due to which history is being distorted and there is a possibility of spreading tension in the society. The film The Taj Story is going to be released on 31st October.
