Pan-India SIR Date: The Election Commission made a major announcement during a press conference regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that after the successful implementation of SIR in Bihar, the second phase of SIR will now be implemented in other selected states across the country.

In this second phase, it will be implemented in 12 states and union territories. At the start of the press conference, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said, “On the occasion of Chhattisgarh, I salute everyone, especially the 75 million voters of Bihar.” After the SIR in Bihar, two meetings were held with all the 36 State Election Commissioners, where the experiences of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) across the country were discussed.

Gyanesh Kumar added that the second phase of SIR will now be launched in selected 12 states and union territories. The objective of this campaign is to add eligible voters to the list and remove invalid or duplicate names. Notably, eight such revisions have been made between 1951 and 2004, although there were complaints from all political parties about flaws in the electoral roll.
