Cyclone Montha News: Cyclone Montha will significantly affect the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Several relief centers have been set up in Chennai before its arrival. A total of 32 flights from Visakhapatnam airport were canceled on Tuesday (October 28) in view of the storm.
According to a PTI report, Visakhapatnam Airport Director N. Purushottam said that two Air India Express flights were canceled on October 27. “We are operating 30 to 32 flights (both domestic and international) daily. Today, all those flights have been cancelled,” he said.
He said that the airport has taken precautions to prepare for severe cyclonic storms, including before and after the cyclone, as per the guidelines of the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
16 flights to Vijayawada cancelled
“Similarly, Vijayawada airport canceled 16 flights but continued to operate five,” Vijayawada airport director Lakshmikant Reddy said.
According to Reddy, the airlines have decided to suspend their services for Tuesday. He added that the situation regarding Wednesday’s flight operations may be clear by evening. Similarly, four flights were canceled at Tirupati airport. Meanwhile, a railway official said that a total of 120 trains were canceled in the South Central Railway (SCR) zone on October 27 and Tuesday.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 45 teams of rescue workers for relief and rescue operations in the wake of Cyclone Montha. Montha will mainly affect coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, and heavy rainfall is predicted in Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu.
