Delhi government is taking a big step to deal with air pollution. The government has announced that all commercial goods vehicles registered outside Delhi that do not comply with BS-VI emission norms will not be able to enter Delhi from November 1. The Delhi Transport Department has issued this directive after the order of the Air Quality Management Commission.
Delhi’s air quality levels drop between October and January due to vehicular emissions, stubble burning and weather conditions. As a result, the government prohibits significant polluting vehicles from entering Delhi.
BS-VI compliant vehicles meet stringent emission norms, which is expected to reduce pollution. A public notice issued by the transport department said that BS-IV commercial goods vehicles will be allowed to enter Delhi only for a limited period till October 31, 2026, as a transitional measure.
However, the public notice clarified that there will be no restriction on entry of commercial goods vehicles, BS-6 compliant diesel vehicles, BS-4 compliant diesel vehicles, or CNG, LNG, or electric vehicles registered in Delhi till October 31, 2026.
Restrictions on commercial goods vehicles under various phases of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) will remain in force until a specific phase is implemented, the notice said. Amid rising pollution levels in the national capital, the CAQM, in its meeting held on October 17, approved a proposal to impose a comprehensive ban on the entry of polluting commercial vehicles into Delhi from November 1.
