Delhi’s air is becoming increasingly toxic. With the onset of winter season, the air of the capital increases the amount of smoke, dust and toxic particles, making breathing difficult. In this situation, the government of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has taken a big decision to provide clean and pure air to Delhi.

From November 1, 2025, BS4 and BS5 diesel commercial vehicles will no longer be allowed to enter Delhi’s borders. This means that if your vehicle is not BS6, entering or driving in Delhi will be strictly prohibited. So, let’s know about the new rules and what will happen if you drive BS4 and BS5 diesel vehicles in Delhi from November 1.

According to the Delhi government and the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), only BS6, CNG, LNG, and electric commercial vehicles will be allowed to enter Delhi from November 1, 2025. Older vehicles, ie, BS4, BS5, and older diesel vehicles, will not be able to enter Delhi. Under the rule, which will come into force from November 1, 2025, only certain vehicles have been exempted. BS6 diesel vehicles will be fully exempted. Besides, CNG, LNG and electric vehicles will also be allowed to enter.

Meanwhile, BS4 diesel vehicles registered in Delhi have been given temporary permission till October 31, 2026. Every year, from October to January, Delhi’s air quality reaches the very poor or severe category, after which it is filled with toxic particles like PM2.5 and PM10, which are very harmful to the lungs and heart. Due to this, the government has decided to keep vehicles with old engines out of the capital.

If you drive your BS4 or BS5 diesel truck or commercial vehicle into Delhi after November 1, 2025, it will be considered a direct violation of the rules. In such a case, vehicles may be impounded, heavy fines will be imposed and legal action may be taken against the driver or owner.

The government has also said that such old vehicles will not be given diesel or petrol at petrol pumps. Moreover, this rule is not limited to Delhi. The government has clearly stated that this order will also apply to NCR districts. These districts include Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurugram and Sonepat. Now, old vehicles will not be allowed to enter the roads bordering NCR.
