Liver Cirrhosis and Its Stages : Liver is an important part of our body. Apart from filtering the blood, it also performs many functions like metabolism, digestion, detoxification. However, changing lifestyle can have a negative impact on the liver. Liver cirrhosis is one of them. When the liver is continuously damaged, it slowly loses its healthy cells. Scar tissue forms in their place. Many take it for granted without knowing it. But later it causes many problems. Now let’s find out how dangerous liver cirrhosis is and at what stage it turns into cancer.
Why is liver cirrhosis dangerous?
Taking liver cirrhosis lightly? But be careful. Because liver cirrhosis is a chronic disease. That means it continues for a long time.. and grows slowly. In the beginning, 20 to 30 percent of the liver is damaged. At this point we don’t see any problem. But as it grows, many of its characteristics appear. Symptoms include fatigue, weakness, loss of appetite, abdominal swelling, repeated infections, vomiting or bleeding. If not treated in time.. it can be fatal. Several studies and reports by the American Liver Foundation show that approximately 80 to 90 percent of liver cancer patients have cirrhosis.
When will it become serious..
Liver cirrhosis is divided into four stages. The risk of cancer is different for each stage. The first stage is compensated cirrhosis. The second is compensated cirrhosis with varices. This increases the pressure on the veins. The risk of cancer is higher than before. The third stage is de-compensated cirrhosis. It interferes with the functioning of the liver. Then the fourth step. End-stage cirrhosis ensues. In this the liver stops working completely. It becomes difficult for the patient to survive.
Cancer is most likely to occur in these four stages. According to medical research, 1 to 8 percent of cirrhosis patients develop liver cancer every year. It is said that this cirrhosis cancer is more dangerous than Hepatitis B or C, so it is difficult for the patient to survive. Liver cirrhosis is not a minor disease. It grows slowly and eventually turns into liver cancer which is life threatening. So experts say that early detection and treatment should be tried.
