New Delhi : Election Commission of India has announced the second phase of Special Intensive Revision. The Election Commission has given this information in a press conference. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has announced that SIR will be implemented in 12 states and Union Territories in the second phase. This time he is said to greet 7.5 crore voters of Bihar. After the SIR in Bihar, the Election Commission held two meetings with the Election Commissioners of 36 states. It discussed the experiences of Bihar before implementing SIR across the country.
SIR in 12 States : SIR in 12 States and Union Territories
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar informed that the second phase of SIR process will be conducted in the states and Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Out of these assembly elections will be held in West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Puducherry. SIR will be conducted in these 12 states and union territories. Final draft of voter list will be released on 7th February 2006.
Second phase starts from today
Gyanesh Kumar informed that special intensive revision will be conducted in these states. The voter list will be frozen at 12 tonight. There will be one BLO in each ward and one ERO i.e. Electoral Registration Officer in each Assembly Constituency. Presently the enumeration form will be printed for the voters. Each BLO will visit the same house at least three times and collect information. Voters who are outside their constituency can fill this form online. No additional documents or forms will be required in this process.
A separate mandate for Assam
It was informed that the second phase of SIR will be implemented in Asa. Indian Citizenship Act has a separate law for Assamese citizenship. This will lead to the issuance of separate SIR orders for Assam. The Election Commissioner also said that there is no dispute regarding SIR in West Bengal.
