In addition to that, more and more organizations are leaning towards Visakhapatnam. ArcelorMittal & Nippon Steels (AM/NS) is going to set up a massive steel plant in Andhra Pradesh. The Expert Appraisal Committee of the Ministry of Environment and Forests of India has recommended environmental clearance for a massive steel plant to be set up by ArcelorMittal & Nippon Steels near Anacapalli. Rs. The steel plant, which will be set up with a huge investment of Rs 1.5 lakh crore, will be the largest greenfield steel manufacturing plant in India with an annual production capacity of 8.2 million tonnes per annum.
Bhumi Puja at the Visakha Partnership Summit
The Bhoomi Puja related to this project will be done at the Bhagaswamya Summit (Partnership Summit) to be held in Visakhapatnam on November 14 and 15. The factory will be constructed with latest technology to meet current climate conditions and meet international standards to ensure minimum air pollution. AM/NS aims to develop the plant in different phases. An integrated steel plant with a capacity of 8.2 million tonnes will be constructed in the first phase, and will be expanded to a capacity of 24 million tonnes at the end.
Nara Lokesh talks last year
Once the ArcelorMittal & Nippon Steels plant becomes fully operational, it will take its place as a major industry in the AP Industrial Corridor. In addition to this, steel-based output units, machine tool (missionary) manufacturing clusters, logistics networks etc. will be developed. AP IT and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh held talks with AM/NS (a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Japan’s Nippon Steel) in August 2024. AM/NS sought land and policy support to set up the best steel manufacturing center in India, AP Government allocated the required land in just 3 months. It has provided immediate assistance through single-window mechanism till all necessary approvals are obtained for setting up of the industry. With the recent approval from MoEF, all major approvals for this project have been completed in just 14 months. This speedy process reflects the ‘speed of doing business’ followed by the Andhra Pradesh government under the leadership of CM Chandrababu and the proactive policy of attracting investments. Due to its ease of doing business policies, transparent governance and special focus on infrastructure, AP is becoming an investment destination for world-renowned companies.

AP Minister Nara Lokesh said that the speed, transparency and efficiency of the state government by granting approvals for this project in the shortest possible time. Under the leadership of CM Chandrababu, we have developed an industrial support system in accordance with global standards. The AM/NS plant will become a key hub in coastal steel industries. With that, lakhs of job opportunities, local productivity, exports and skill development sectors will increase. This project will boost regional infrastructure development. The plant will play a vital role in the development of the Vizianagaram-Anakapalli-Kakinada industrial area and position India as a sustainable steel producer globally.
