EC SIR 12 states to be covered under phase 2: The Election Commission (ECI) has announced the launch of Special Intensive Revision of Voter Lists – SIR, a major revision of voter lists after two decades in India. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced that the process will start from October 28 in 12 states and Union Territories in the second phase across the country. Voter lists in these states will be frozen from midnight. ECI is taking this step to remove names of duplicate, deceased and ineligible voters and prepare clean lists.

Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Goa, Puducherry, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep states.

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in these states will visit every house thrice from Tuesday. Pre-filled enumeration forms will be distributed. No additional documents are required for those whose names appear in the 2003 voter list. Aadhaar card is not a proof of citizenship.

As per Bihar model Aadhaar is only as proof of identity. 2002-04 SIR List is available at http://voters.eci.gov.in website. All Chief Electoral Officers, District Officers will meet the parties on Tuesday and explain the SIR process. The CEC said the first phase of SIR was conducted in Bihar and completed with zero appeals. After completing all the process, the final voter list will be published on February 7 next year.
