Rohit Sharma tops ICC ODI Rankings : Amid talks of retirement from international cricket, Indian opener Rohit Sharma topped the new ODI batsmen rankings released by the ICC on Wednesday (Oct 29, 2025). 38-year-old Rohit Sharma has become one of the oldest batsmen to top the ICC rankings. Rohit has achieved this feat for the first time in his long cricket career.

Rohit added 36 points to his rating from 741 to 781 points. This saw him overtake Indian teammate and current Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill to become the number one. Earlier during the 2019 World Cup, Rohit reached the second position with 882 rating points. At that time he had scored a record five centuries.

Returning to ODI cricket after a seven-month break, Rohit once again dominated with his bat. He became the highest run-scorer in the three-match series against Australia. He scored 202 runs in three innings, including a century and a half-century. His batting average was 101. On the strength of this powerful performance, Rohit Sharma reached the top position in the ICC ODI batsmen’s ranking. He scored his 33rd ODI and 50th international century in the third ODI in Sydney. On the strength of his century, India defeated Australia by 9 wickets.

Shreyas Iyer also benefits

On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer, who recently excelled against Australia, has jumped one place and is now at the ninth position. Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer suffered a serious injury in the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. Iyer’s ribs were hit in the catching accident, which started internal bleeding. He was immediately rushed to the hospital and admitted to the ICU. Official sources said that the BCCI medical team is monitoring his condition and currently Iyer’s condition is stable.
