Babar Azam Breaks Rohit Sharma Record : Pakistan’s star batsman Babar Azam has not been able to shine in the current T20 series against South Africa (Pakistan vs South Africa, 2nd T20I), but despite his lack of form, he made a big record in world cricket. He scored only 11 runs in the second T20 against South Africa, but that short innings has made him the highest run-scorer in T20 Internationals. Before this match, this world record was held by Indian captain Rohit Sharma.
Babar Azam Breaks Rohit Sharma Record
Babar Azam has overtaken Rohit Sharma to hold the record for most runs in T20 Internationals. India’s legendary batsman Virat Kohli is also close to him in this list. However, now both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will not be able to overtake Babar as both the players have retired from T20 cricket in 2024.

Pakistan’s Babar Azam tops world record despite lack of form
Fans were expecting a big innings from Babar in this series against South Africa. But in the second T20, Pakistan faced a paltry target of just 111 runs, and the match was almost over when Babar came to bat. Yet to achieve such a record during a period of poor form shows how consistent Babar has been and how high his batting quality has been over the years. Babar has so far scored 4234 runs in 123 innings from 130 T20I matches, while Rohit Sharma has 4231 runs in 159 matches.
Importance of record
Although the form is a bit off at the moment, becoming the highest run-scorer in T20 international history is a huge achievement. This record is a symbol of Babar’s consistency and impressive performance over the past decade. Now the fans are hoping that he will build on this record further and make his bat once again shine in big tournaments like the upcoming T20 World Cup.
