India vs South Africa match in Guwahati will be special
Toss, lunch, tea, stump (end of day’s play)… This is the usual order in Test matches, but the order is set to change in the second Test between India and South Africa to be played in Guwahati from November 22. According to a report in Indian Express, for the first time the players will get a tea break before lunch. Sunrise and sunset are earlier in the eastern part of the country, hence this decision has been taken.
The first session of the game will be from 9 am to 11 am at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. After that a tea break will be given from 11 to 11:20 hrs. The second session will be played from 11:20 am to 1:20 pm, followed by a lunch break from 1:20 pm to 2 pm. The last session will be held from 2 pm to 4 pm.
According to BCCI officials, “The sun sets early in Guwahati, so the match has to start early in the morning. It has been decided to have a tea break before lunch to extend the playing time. This is being experimented for the first time.” Thus the play of this match will start at 9 am and end at 4 pm.

Experiment already done in Ranji Trophy
Test matches in India usually start at 9:30 AM. There is a lunch break of 40 minutes (11:30 to 12:10) and a tea break of 20 minutes (2:10 to 2:30). The third session runs from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Half an hour extra time may be allowed to complete 90 overs in a day. The BCCI has earlier rescheduled sessions in Ranji Trophy matches according to sunset time, and now the same experiment will be done for the first time in international Tests.
