South Africa beat Pakistan by 55 runs in 1st T20I : At the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, South Africa pulled off a feat that no other team had ever managed. Batting first, South Africa won the first match of the three-match T20I series against Pakistan by 55 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Interestingly, this was the first time in Rawalpindi’s T20 international history that the team batting first won the match. In fact, Pakistan, loaded with veterans, was defeated by South Africa’s C team.
After losing the toss, South Africa batted first and scored 194 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. For the team, Reeza Hendricks, the opener, played a powerful knock of 60 off 40 balls, which included 5 fours and 1 six. In the final phase, George Linde hit a quick 22-ball 36 to take the team’s score to nearly 200. Shaheen Afridi was thoroughly washed up by South Africa, scoring him 45 runs in 4 overs.

Pakistan’s innings collapsed while chasing the target. The entire team was bundled out for just 136 runs in 18.1 overs. Sam Ayyub (37) and Mohammad Nawaz (36) put up some resistance, but other batsmen flopped. Only four batsmen from Pakistan could reach double figures. Babar’s bat failed to perform and was dismissed within five minutes of his arrival at the crease. Babar Azam was dismissed for zero.
South Africa’s bowlers sealed the win with a superb performance. Corbin Bosh took 4 wickets with a sharp knock, while George Linde also shone in the bowling with an all-round display. He took 3 wickets for 31 runs in 3 overs. Lizard Williams took 2 wickets and Lungi Ngidi took 1 wicket.
With this victory, South Africa not only took the lead in the series, but also became the first team in the history of Rawalpindi to bat first and win. The second match of the series is scheduled to be played on October 31 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, where Pakistan will be looking to make a comeback in the series.
