Belgaum Municipal Corporation: As today November 1 is Karnataka’s Rajyotsav Day, the Municipal Corporation in Belgaum has again started the campaign of Kannadaisation. Municipal Corporation employees painted on the board in English and Marathi language at the commercial establishment. This is causing a strong reaction in the public. Police security was also kept during the operation on English, Marathi boards. Earlier also, a fatwa was passed that sixty percent of all billboards in the city should have Kannada text. Therefore, the name of the business establishment was written in small letters in Marathi and English. Even today, when action was taken on English and Marathi boards, the traders who had boards in English and Marathi only avoided action by covering the boards with cloth. As Karnataka Rajyotsava falls on November 1, Kannada organizations are making several demands.
Heavy deployment of Karnataka Police on Maharashtra-Karnataka border
Meanwhile, in the wake of the black day, a large contingent of Karnataka police has been deployed on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border. Vehicles going from Maharashtra to Karnataka are being checked and released. Security has been deployed to prevent Maharashtra leaders from participating in the procession of Marathi brothers. Leaders from Maharashtra are going to the border area for the Kaal Day program in Belgaum on November 1.
District ban on Shiv Sena leaders in Kolhapur
Hatkanangale MP Darhysheel Mane, Vijay Devane of Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, Shiv Sena deputy leader Sanjay Pawar, Sunil Modi and Sunil Shintre have been banned from entering Belgaum district today by the District Collector of Belgaum. Meanwhile, in Belgaum, the Maharashtra Integration Committee will observe black day on Saturday, the Karnataka Rajyotsav day. MP Darhysheel Mane and Shiv Sena leaders from Kolhapur are likely to participate in the Black Day program on Saturday and make offensive speeches. Therefore, the district police chief of Belgaum has sent a letter to the district collector saying that there is a possibility of a rift between Kannada and Marathi speakers in Belgaum. In the letter, the Belgaum District Police Chief has mentioned that it has been informed that the leaders of Nipani’s Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti have invited MP Darhysheel Mane and Shiv Sena leaders from Kolhapur for the Black Day programme. Pursuant to this letter, Belgaum District Collector Roshan Mohammad has banned MP Darishsheel Mane, Shiv Sena leader Vijay Devane, Sanjay Pawar, Sunil Shintre and Sunil Modi from entering Belgaum district on November 1.
